people — We are well qualified people with energy and enthusiasm for good design. It’s what we do, it’s what we really enjoy doing. We have a good mixture of youth and experience, a good blend of knowledge and craft, and a good deal of evidence to demonstrate our approach.

Gerry Diebel has acquired extensive brand design and marketing communications experience across many sectors, both nationally and internationally in the last 28 years. He has worked with Canon, Citroen, Neutrogena, Hanson, Texas Instruments and WS Atkins amongst his corporate clients, and The Home Office, National Policing Improvement Agency and The University for the Creative Arts in the public sector. Following his Graphic Design degree from The London College of Communication, Gerry worked for four years in Germany with two pan European advertising agencies before returning to London to join Direct Design. He is a member of The Institute of Directors and The Design Business Association.

Laurie King had to decide whether to join the army or become a designer. It could have been the RAF like his granddad but Laurie is really not very keen on flying. But after studying for a foundation year, a BA honours degree and an MA in graphics, he’s got his feet firmly on the ground and realised a huge passion for anything design… typography, illustration and photography new or old. (Laurie has a copy of the Helvetica movie if you’d like to borrow it).

Niki Claridge graduated from University for the Creative Arts with a BA in graphic design and brings some new Flash and interactive skills to the business. As design and marketing moves ever faster towards the instant impact of the internet, Niki's enthusiasm for everything digital (yes, of course she has an iPhone) will expand our horizons.

Ed Walker joined us in October 2007 as a design graduate from St. Martins and has completed a productive and successful time with us in Brasted. He has now started a post graduate course at the Royal College of Art, in Communication Art & Design for the next couple of years .. but we will be welcoming him in the holidays when he will no doubt want to earn some money!

Anders Fagerhus worked with us in the UK during 2007 and is now working for Direct Design in Oslo. Anders has several years working experience with online communication design and web development solutions for a variety of well known clients (both Norwegian and European) including Accenture, Expert, Nokia, and Mediafront. Anders has an MA in Graphic Design, and a BA in Multimedia Development, a combination that enables him to deliver high quality solutions for the growing interactive market of online graphic design services.

Jane Gray looks after the administrative side of the business and ensures we both pay our suppliers and are paid by our clients. She has a broad range of experience, with corporates such as Rio Tinto Zinc, with local government and housing associations, and seven years with a local architectural practice which taught her a lot about the geography of the area as well as the running of a small business.

projects — Our design ideas use images and words, typography and code to clarify and communicate what people want to achieve for themselves and their businesses. What we produce represents our clients to the world so we’re keen that we develop it successfully together. The most important thing to do is listen. To listen to what the client is ultimately trying to achieve and agreeing what a successful outcome would be.

We work with large corporations, public sector organisations and charities on both long term and one off projects, but also for much smaller businesses and marketing partners who want to reach people effectively.

professional — We are members of The Design Business Association. The DBA exists to promote professional excellence through productive partnerships between commerce and the design industry to champion effective design. Our membership enables us to quickly find relevant commercial information, such as copyright law, and benchmark ourselves against other design businesses with regard to fees and services. With the support of the DBA, we are working to educate, inform and inspire our clients on the impact design can have on their businesses.

Gerry Diebel is a member of the Institute of Directors and their premises are a convenient meeting place for him in London.
